چکیده

Recently it has been suggested that, somehow similarly to visual saccadic suppression, saccades interrupt some mental activities. After demonstrating that spontaneous eye movements can be used to trace the instantaneous evolution of mental imagery, we show here that making a voluntary saccade or anti-saccade as a secondary task introduces a large delay in a concurrent motion imagery task. An identical task requiring a shift of attention but not saccades also delays imagery, though to a lesser extent. The delay is never compensated afterwards, as if the time dedicated to the secondary task was lost. In contrast, motion imagery is not delayed by spontaneous saccades that accompany imagery, as compared to a fixation condition. We conclude that important time gaps in cognitive activity are introduced only by tasks competing for attentional resources, including voluntary saccades, in dual-task contexts.

Exploring the Relation Between Imagery Ability and Performance While Doing Anticipation Tasks in Different Weather Conditions: The Case of Army Student Pilots

Background and Aim: The purpose of this study was to compare the accuracy of military students performing prediction tasks under different weather conditions and also to investigate the relationship between the ability of mental imagery and the ability to predict these students. In addition, in this research, a comparison was made between the ability to predict pilots and other students. Method...

An effective approach for gap-filling continental scale remotely sensed time-series

The archives of imagery and modeled data products derived from remote sensing programs with high temporal resolution provide powerful resources for characterizing inter- and intra-annual environmental dynamics. The impressive depth of available time-series from such missions (e.g., MODIS and AVHRR) affords new opportunities for improving data usability by leveraging spatial and temporal informa...

Detection of mental imagery and attempted movements in patients with disorders of consciousness using EEG

Further development of an EEG based communication device for patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC) could benefit from addressing the following gaps in knowledge-first, an evaluation of different types of motor imagery; second, an evaluation of passive feet movement as a mean of an initial classifier setup; and third, rapid delivery of biased feedback. To that end we investigated whethe...

Elsevier Editorial System(tm) for Behaviour Research and Therapy Manuscript Draft Title: Visuospatial Tasks Suppress Craving for Cigarettes Visuospatial Tasks Suppress Craving for Cigarettes Visuospatial Suppression of Craving: 2

The Elaborated Intrusion (EI) theory of desire posits that visual imagery plays a key role in craving. We report a series of experiments testing this hypothesis in a drug addiction context. Experiment 1 showed that a mental visual imagery task with neutral content reduced cigarette craving in abstaining smokers, but that an equivalent auditory task did not. The effect of visual imagery was repl...

The Comparison of the Effects of Choice Theory Therapy and Behavioral Activation Therapy with and without Guided Mental Imagery on Resilience in Substance-Dependent Adolescents

Objective: This study aimed to compare the effects of choice theory therapy and behavioral activation (BA) therapy with and without guided mental imagery on resilience in substance-dependent adolescents. Method: The present study was quasi-experimental with pretest-posttest design with a control group. The study sample included 60 substance-dependent adolescents who were selected by convenience...
